A closeup view of the simple quillwork design on the lid, featuring the three-leafed red clover.

The simplicity of the quillwork technique adorning the container suggests that the maker may not have had much- if any- experience working with quillwork prior to embellishing this container. Further indicating the maker's limited quillwork skillset are the damaged quills on the lid and face of the container. Although the design is basic and imperfect, it does not detract from the fact that the quillwork artform requires "unlimited patience" to execute even the simplest design (Mikkelsen, 1969, 34). Whether the maker is a young, quillwork novice or an elder who intentionally wove a simple design, the artistry is undoubtedly a reflection of the maker's Indigeneity.
