Knife and Sheath 1.jpg

This knife was actually a gift to Mary Wemigwase from a fur trade reenactor. Fur trade reenactors are people who base their craft based on historical accounts and historical ways of making things out of animals, mostly things like fur skin boot, jackets, hats, mittens, anything with leather, etc. This piece ties into the tourism trade because reenactors often use Native American techniques and designs to profit in tourist attraction spots. The creator of the blade was around Cross Village, north of Petoskey MI. Cross Village was originally a three season home for the Odawa and the Ojibwa tribes. The shealth was made by Mary Wimigwase using tradtional techniques.
