Use of the Glove Box

This item had certain connotations towards a specific gender, race, and class identity. During the the turn of the twentieth century, gloves held a special meaning and were used as a sort of a status symbol. If one was rich, they would most likely own many different pairs of gloves for different activites (Blackmore, 2018). The person who owned this box, whether it was a man or woman, was most likely white and rich. The box is an example of Native American art, but westernized and modified for the use of settler-colonizers. As a souvenir this object commidifies a part of a culture in a way that people outside of this culture could consume without not knowing much about the culture in question.
