View 3 - Peeling Back Privilege
Because this basswood bag is in the MSU Museum collections storage facility and not on display only a limited number of people have access to them. Students have access to this object as a privilege of being a registered member of the MSU community which is occupying Indigenous land. As non-indigenous students it is important to be conscious of our roles in benefiting from the ongoing colonization of Indigenous land. By uncovering or peeling back all of the layers of privilege communities can start to create new things. For example, putting this exhibition online is an attempt to equalize access to this object. Some of the basswood bags in the MSU Museum collection will also be added to the GRASAC database providing more detailed images and information for access in Indigenous communities.
